What We’re Looking For
Our ideal candidate is a self-motivated, highly organized, creative problem-solver with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
The candidate will have the following combination of skills and experience:
5+ years law firm or related legal administrative experience
minimum of a law clerk diploma or equivalent combination of work experience and education
proficient at preparing and filing court materials, drafting correspondence, organizing meetings, tracking tasks and follow ups
highly skilled in using typical office software, including MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat, and an ability to independently learn new tech tools and systems
an excellent eye for detail, including the ability to proofread and format documents
demonstrated strength in time management
ability to work well under pressure, both independently and as part of a team
a sense of humour
Description of Position
The candidate’s primary responsibilities will include:
- supporting lawyers with file opening processes, drafting and proofreading correspondence and accurately formatting legal documents
- managing electronic filings through Case Center and other Canadian court e-filing systems, and ensuring compliance with court practice directions
- monitoring court deadlines, limitation periods, practice directions, and tasks across multiple active files, court locations and jurisdictions
- keeping lawyers informed of changes to court notices, rules, and procedures
- communication with clients, opposing counsel, and court staff
- tracking action items, scheduling and calendar management covering different time zones
- support for reception duties, including answering incoming calls, sending/receiving couriers, ordering supplies, keeping common areas tidy and preparing meeting spaces
- ad hoc duties as required or commensurate with skills, interest, and experience e.g. project management, legal research
The successful candidate will work regular full-time hours with some flexibility to work from home.
The estimated salary range for this position is between $70,000 – $90,000. Compensation will be determined on an individual basis, taking into account the applicant’s qualifications, skills and experience, applicable market rates, and other relevant considerations.
