Project Manager (Ottawa)

First Peoples Law LLP is seeking a Project Manager to join our growing team dedicated to defending and advancing the rights of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

The Project Manager will have the following combination of skills and experience: 

 

  • strong understanding of law-firm processes, lawyer-client relationships, and project-management concepts  

  • knowledge of budgeting concepts and finance principles 

  • strong ability to self-manage, organize and multi-task numerous projects of various sizes 

  • creative approach to problem-solving  

  • detail-oriented 

  • tech savvy 

  • ability to work well under pressure, both independently and as part of a team 

  • commitment to First Peoples Law’s principles and objectives 

  • university degree plus five years of relevant project management experience, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience  

  • experience working with Indigenous communities an asset 

  • a sense of humour 

 

Description of Position 

 

The Project Manager will focus on enhancing the delivery of legal services to clients and supporting the implementation of firm systems. 

Working under the direction of a team of lawyers and directors, the Project Manager’s primary responsibilities will include: 

 

  • managing deadlines and projects, including public education projects, across the firm by coordinating workflows, tracking deliverables and supporting a collaborative work environment 

  • supporting lawyers with managing and tracking client files by participating in and preparing for client meetings, coordinating internal deadlines, monitoring file progress 

  • developing relationships with clients and lawyers to ensure clients’ needs are met 

  • coordinating with clients on funding applications, budgets, and reporting, including liaising with lawyers and clients to track fees, costs, deadlines and funding opportunities 

  • under the direction of lawyers, preparing draft correspondence, affidavits and other documents 

  • creating and improving firm processes to streamline workflows 

  • ad hoc duties as required 

 

The Project Manager will work on a full-time basis, primarily out of our Ottawa office.  Salary will be based on experience and qualifications.
