SENIOR CORPORATE LAWYER (OTTAWA OR VANCOUVER)

First Peoples Law LLP is seeking a Lawyer to join our growing team dedicated to defending and advancing the rights of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

What We’re Looking For 

 

We are seeking an experienced Corporate Lawyer who shares our commitment to protecting and advancing the rights of Indigenous Peoples. 

 

The successful candidate will advise clients on corporate commercial and economic development matters, including initial incorporations, tax matters, trusts, leases, asset/share transactions, revenue sharing agreements, corporate governance and contract drafting.  

 

In addition to managing client files, the ideal candidate will provide mentorship and support to our corporate team of lawyers and paralegals.  

 

The ideal candidate will have the following combination of skills and experience: 

 

  • alignment with our core values of advocacy, integrity and commitment  

  • 7+ years legal practice experience with corporate work 

  • knowledge and experience with trust law matters an asset 

  • creative and collaborative approach to problem solving  

  • excellent academic credentials, strong work ethic and positive team attitude 

  • strong analytical, communication, drafting and writing skills 

  • digitally enabled/engaged and comfortable with using and learning technology 

  • ability to work well under pressure, both independently and as part of a team  

  • excellent organizational and interpersonal skills   

  • interest and ability to participate in client and business development    

  • strong client service skills with the ability to foster solid relationships  

  • willingness to travel across the country to remote locations using a wide variety of transportation methods (prop-plane, truck, hiking, ATV, boat, snowmobile, etc.)   

  • comfortable working in Indigenous communities    

  • called to the bar in Ontario and/or British Columbia  

  • a sense of humor 

  

Description of Position 

 

The Lawyer will work collaboratively with the firm’s partners and associates to deliver high-quality legal representation to our clients. 

 

The Lawyer will work on a full-time basis out of our office in either Ottawa or Vancouver.  Salary will be based on experience and qualifications.
