What We’re Looking For 

 

Our ideal candidate is a self-motivated, highly organized, creative, problem-solver with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 

The lawyer will have the following combination of skills and experience: 

  • 3 or more years of legal practice experience with a focus on corporate commercial work, including significant experience structuring tax and liability efficient entities and joint ventures to facilitate commercial relationships 

  • enjoy creating and maintaining client relationships  

  • creative and collaborative approach to problem solving  

  • excellent knowledge of legal fundamentals, strong work ethic and positive team attitude 

  • strong analytical, communication, drafting and writing skills 

  • digitally enabled/engaged and comfortable with using and learning technology 

  • ability to work well under pressure, both independently and as part of a team  

  • excellent organizational and interpersonal skills     

  • knowledge and experience with trust law matters an asset 

  • called to the bar in Ontario  

  • a sense of humor 

  

Description of Position 

 

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with our team to deliver high-quality legal representation to our clients.  The lawyer will work on a full-time basis out of the First Peoples Law office in Ottawa.

 The primary responsibilities will include: 

  • advising clients on corporate commercial and economic development matters, including initial incorporations, complex deal structuring, tax and liability advice, trusts,  acquisition and sale of leases and other interests in land (including Reserve land interests), asset/share transactions, revenue sharing agreements, corporate governance and contract drafting 

  • working collaboratively with the Firm’s corporate commercial team 

  • fostering solid & ongoing relationships with clients 

  • seeking out and participating in business development opportunities  

  • willingness to travel 

The estimated salary range for this position is between $90,000 - $160,000. Compensation will be determined on an individual basis, taking into account the applicant’s qualifications, skills and experience, applicable market rates, and other relevant considerations.
